Playing With Fire
Playing With Fire, the first live recording by super-group Deep Energy Orchestra features prog-phenom Trey Gunn (King Crimson) and Indian percussion master, Selvaganesh (Shakti, Masters of Percussion).
Performing the compelling and eclectic compositions of world jazz bassist, Jason Everett aka Mister E, the group of Indian, Prog Rock, and Classical musicians creates an exotic soundscape that takes the listener on a journey through musical worlds seldom experienced. Jason’s unique ability to create grooves in odd-meters is deceptive in that music feels very natural despite being very complex and has a wide-array of styles, from Funk to Flamenco that fit together seamlessly.
The performances were recorded live over two-days at the Jack Straw Cultural Center in Seattle, WA as part of an Artist Residency award and were captured on video with multiple cameras so that the unusual instruments (tabla, kanjira, seven-string electric violin, Warr Guitar, and Selvaganesh’s custom kit) and virtuosic playing can be seen as well as heard.
